This round, black-colored berry contains one of the highest number of polyphenols and antioxidants of all fruits growing in Canada. Also called Black Chokeberry, Aronia is the correct and Latin name. It grows wild in Eastern Canada in the Maritimes region as well as Northeast U.S.
Highly revered by Indigenous people for millennia for its exceptional healing qualities and for food., Aronia contain many vitamins and minerals including B complex, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Tocopherols, Pantothenic acid, Folate, Potassium, Calcium, Iron and Zinc. The taste is mildly sweet with a tart and dry quality.
One recent in vitro test showed Aronia juice destroyed 97% of SARS covid-19 virus however more testing needs to be done. The preventative and healing properties of Aronia berry have been reported in more than 100 studies.
